Northern Aegean Dolphin Project

	PROGRAM SPECIFICS
DESCRIPTION
The non-profit, non - governmental organization MOm / Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal initiated the Northern Aegean Dolphin Project, a research project for evaluating the conservation status of Cetacean (i.e., dolphins and whales) populations in the wider area of the National Marine Park of Alonnisos in Northern Sporades (NMPANS).
For seven days, students will have the opportunity to join MOm’s research team, collect and process important biological data and be actively involved in daily field surveys at sea. Additionally, in the evenings, educational seminars will be held by MOm’s expert staff, providing valuable insights and understanding regarding marine mammals, monitoring techniques and the local marine environment. Students will get the chance to witness and photograph some of the most fascinating wildlife in the Aegean Archipelago, visit unique locations and come across amazing landscapes and breathtaking sceneries. MOm’s researchers will guide the team through and explain all procedures and research technique protocols.

STUDENT COMMENTS
"The internship totally fulfilled my expectations. I expect finding out if a job like this is something I would like to do in the future, which is something that happened through the internship. I also expected to learn more about life in the see and especially about dolphins. I certainly did learn many things about dolphins and not only general information but also interesting details. I also expected to learn what does a marine biologist do. I learned some aspects of that (like photo id) certainly not all of it (that would be impossible in one week. Finally I expected observing dolphins from close and that happened as we saw and observed about 7 dolphins."
"I pretty much enjoyed all of the things about the internship. The thing I enjoyed the most was the daily trips with the boats and of course the time we followed and observed the dolphins. Another really good thing was the instructor-supervisor of the program who knew many things about the topic and who could easily and in a fun way "teach" many things to us."
"The best things were the time on boat during our investigation and all the bautiful places that we saw from boat (places which they are accessible from sea only)."
