Precollege Summer Immersion Program
PROGRAM SPECIFICS
DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1999, The Pace University Summer Scholars Institute is an intensive two week learning and living program designed for rising (High School) Juniors and Seniors eager to experience first hand what college is all about. You must be 16 at the time of the program in order to apply and attend. Located on our newly renovated New York City campus situated just steps away from Wall Street, Little Italy, Chinatown, and the Brooklyn Bridge, the Institute offers a rigorous and challenging program of study for students in five possible fields of study (“tracks”) at a surprisingly affordable tuition. These five tracks are Theatre Arts, Business, Psychology, Digital Film Production, and Criminal Justice. Prospective students should apply for the track they wish “to major” in and can also indicate a second choice.
Our students’ classroom experience is paired with active exploration of New York City. Many of the tracks use the city as a “text” to support their curriculum. Outings to museums, theaters, parks and restaurants are also part of an itinerary of social events that complement each student’s out of class activities.
Summer Scholars get to mix with Pace University faculty, staff, current students, and former Summer Scholars. Each new class of Summer Scholars brings in smart and talented students from around the country with a few students from abroad. Together they form a creative and supportive community of friends that often endures after the program ends. Parents are invited to attend a closing reception where they can meet Summer Scholars staff and faculty.
STUDENT COMMENTS
The program, for me at least, was a great experience; one of the best summers ever. The course I chose was amazing and I actually learned from it. But the most important thing is that I learned from the whole experience itself. It is a great experience for a student who is going to the US for the first time. Summer 2010
Pace University was a thrilling experience. It was such a great experience simply because I was able to attend very interesting small lessons, which was a great taste of what it’s like to study in the US and be responsible for yourself. Plus, all this was done in the greatest city in the world: NYC. Though we had a lot of work at the university—with the guidance of the university professors of course—Pace does not neglect the fun side of the program as well. We were given incredible field trips depending on what major we had selected. Also, we met many kids for around the United States and we had so much fun with them. All in all, the experience was incredible and I would recommend it to student who wants to make their university dreams come true. Summer 2009
This was a very interesting program topic and a good opportunity to visit NYC, which has always been a dream of mine. This two week program is designed to introduce the topic of biology to students preparing for college/university. The topics that were covered include: toxicology courses in the morning as well as mental health disorders and dysfunctions in the afternoon. We had access to various samples and laboratories to complete our studies. Also, we were able to visit museums with relevant exhibits. I would highly recommend this program! Summer 2009
"Pace was one of the best experiences of my life. The leaders and the kids were extremely friendly and helpful and I got to meet people from all over the world. The campus was in New York City which was very convenient for our field trips. Last but not least I loved the experience in class; I felt like a college student." Summer 2019
